Are speed boats safe and is it safe to swim in a lake while other boats are present?

like anything...it depends on the person driving. if the operator is safe and courteous, than they are safe it the operator is full throttle all the time...no matter where they are at, then no they wouldn't be safe as far as swimming, that is always a swim at own risk kind of thing, wear a bright life vest so you will be seen easier happy boating
if you use it right, it will be very safe. when swimming, you sould probly anchor somewhere where there are not as many boats
In the US speed boats complying with USCG regulations, and being operated in a responsible manner are safe (as safe as can be reasonably expected). Swimming in the boating channel is just plain stupid. If you are swimming off a boat at anchor, there should be a clearly visible dive flag displayed on the boat (yes, I know you may not be diving, but it alerts other boaters to people in the water). Whenever swimming of a boat at anchor, there should always be a 'tender' or 'look-out' who stays on the boat.
