Should the US Navy have blown the Iranian speed boats out of the water?

- The Navy needs target practice!
- No, but they would've been fully justified if they had done so and the Iranians really had been dropping bombs in the water or in any other way had intended to attack those vessels. You can't expect the military to idly sit by if there's a clear threat against them--and the Iranians would've been responsible for all actions incurred thereafter, if it had come to that. If you run out on the savannah and keep teasing elephants, you've only got yourself to blame if you eventually get gored and trampled.
- Yes! Right where they belong.
- No. They handled it correctly. However, if the Iranians ever present a credible threat, then yes by all means blow them up.
- Yes they were antagonizing, a bad thing to do with USA sailors. Go Navy, I have one of their finest as my hubby.
- Yes.
- Yep right after they message we are going to blow you up.
- They were acting with caution because they didn't want it to become an international incident. They were preparing to do just that (blow them out of the water), and would not have had the slightest problem doing so had the Iranian boats not left the scene. Our navy is a professional fighting force and will act if and when necessary. I'll bet the Iranians had no intention of approaching and then boarding these ships, taking hostages like they did with the British sailors. I suspect that they knew that if they tried that kind of nonsense they would be destroyed, quick-time. (The Brits wouldn't allow that to happen again, either, by the way). Thanks to all of our courageous military men and women!
- are you going to believe bush's lies again.why don't you ask yourself some questions first? bush said that there is a huge amount of missiles in iraq so we must do sth, after a year and a half after occupying he claimed that there's nothing. he said that iran is going to make nuclear bomb, after 5 years ,16 intelligence services claimed that iran had stopped its nuclear program in 2003. and now they say that iranian boats threatened US navy ships, but their videos are not clear enough. as an iranian i know that those boats have iran flag on them, but in videos you can't see iran flag. there's a video that iran tv showed today,in the video that is taken from one of those boats you can see US navy war ship No.73 and iranian officer is talking english through radio with the officer in charge of US ship, they were doing a routine and international accepted questioning and the US officer answered in a formal way that they're passing international waters to do their mission, and everyhing finish in peace BUT us tvs such as cnn just show the video without voice. now i ask u again should we belive the graet lier of our time again?
- That would have been a rather silly and pointless exercise which would not have done the US, or the world, any favours
- yes, they were threatened by the Iranians they should have.
- Y E S, but the US Navy is trained for situations like this.
- Absolutley, with events like the boat that blew up the ship while it was getting fuel. You have to keep potentially harmful vessels away from your ship. They are lucky, since I served under several Captains that would not have waited so long. They would have had the ships guns open fire on them once they got the verbal message saying they were going to blow up the ship.
