What did you think of the movie "Open Water"?
I saw it yesterday; the entire movie I was wondering why they did things the way they did. * Why didn't they swim across the current (rather than against it) so they wouldn't drift out to sea and would be more likely to be found by random boats coming and going? * They were only down for 1/2 an hour or so, and should have had more than 1/2 of the air in their cylinders left, depending on tank size and their breathing habits. They were certified, so were taught that they could have swam the 40 feet to the bottom, and swam across the current easily. Also, they could have done so early on to avoid attracting attention of sharks. * They could have used the shiny part of their belts to signal to boats. * They could have shined the belt (or even the masks) towards their two fingers in the shape of a V, with the boat between them. Then they would know they were signaling in the right direction. * Etc. Is the point that proper prior planning prevents poor performance?

- I couldn't believe that it held my attention for the entire movie. I mean, when you think about it, movie featuring two people floating on featureless ocean for days, got to be boring, right? But it wasn't. I didn't know as much about ocean currents as you apparently do - maybe it would have been annoying if I had realized the logical problems.
- Never seen it and don't really fancy it
- no one will really know what happened the only two that do know either drowned or got scoffed by sharks, ahh hollywood, never let the truth get in the way of a story
- I've never seen the movie but it does seem rather improbable that the boat would leave without them and they would probably be in an area where boats were passing all the time. I do remember a supposedly true story - I'd like to think it's just an urban legend (or is that maritime legend?) - of a party on a boat where everyone went for a midnight swim but no one remembered to put the ladder down; with nobody left on the boat they couldn't get back on board even though the boat was just a few feet from them and the all drowned.
- saw, did not think much of it. Would not see again
- Hated it! I was shocked! That was just utter stupidity on the part of Hollywood once again. There are so many ways they could have saved themselves. Pointless arguing leaves no chance to self rescue. That movie sickened me because I happen to swim in the company of sharks many times and at night too with no problems. Arrrrrrrr !!!!
