which brand of 25hp 2 stroke outboard is the fastest ?

I have a small avon inflatable, which I enjoy racing with friends. I don't have enough money to run anything large or impressive, but nevertheless I enjoy it.The boat can take a 25hp max. I have a fair knowledge of engine workings. Is there any particular year model or brand that offers significantly better performance ?

1. 25hp is 25hp... while the "brand name" may offer (controversial) differences in performance... I think you are barking up the wrong tree here... If you want to experiment with maximum speed, you should be looking at various props and prop angles. While some props are made for speed, others are made for thrust, and what you probably have is the standard middle of the road that offers a good balance between the two... While a speed prop will cause your boat to hesitate coming out of "the hole" - when you give it full throttle, once out, it will zip along at a much faster pace on the water. This is most likely your best solution, as the question you ask will get as many different answers as their are brand names... We all have our good and bad experiences with different products, but that doesn't mean the "brand" is bad - maybe is was just bad for us... John
