It is the moment that every player wants. Last year, it was Sam Bradford of Oklahoma. His name was called, and it will forever be remembered in history. He won the Heisman trophy. He became the 74th Heisman trophy winner, following Tim Tebow of Florida. Looking at this year, many consider there to be many candidates. The front runners are considered to be Colt McCoy of Texas, Tim Tebow of Florida, Toby Gerhart of Stanford, Mark Ingram of Alabama, and CJ Spiller of Clemson. Colt McCoy finished second in the voting last year. Last year, McCoy completed over 77% of his passes. He also threw for over 3,800 yards and 34 touchdowns. As of right now, he has thrown for 3,024 yards and 23 touchdowns. His passer rating is also down 20 points, from 173 to 152. Also, he has the Texas Longhorns at 11-0 with two games left, Texas A&M and the Big 12 championship game. Tim Tebow was the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner. He is trying to be only the second player to repeat, the other being Archie Griffin of Ohio State in the mid 1970s’. Tebow has thrown for over 1,900 yards, which is less than he has thrown the previous two years. In 2008, he threw for 2,746 yards and in 2007, he threw for 3,286 yards. Tebow has also thrown for fewer touchdown passes. This year he has thrown for only 14 touchdowns while last year he threw for 30 touchdowns and in 2007, he threw for 32 touchdowns. This year, Tebow has rushed for 706 yards rushing and 11 touchdowns. Toby Gerhart, a running back from Stanford, is second in the nation in rushing yards. He has rushed for 1,531 yards so far with a game against Notre Dame left. Gerhart has rushed for 23 touchdowns, he is also averaging 5.4 yards per carry. Gerhart is considered to be a main reason why Stanford has made a turnaround. Stanford was 5-7 last year, right now they are 7-4. Last year, Alabama was one win away from making the National Championship. This year, they are in the same boat except they are two wins away. Many say that Mark Ingram is a major contributor to this. He has rushed for 1,399 yards and 12 touchdowns. He has also caught 25 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Ingram is averaging 6.8 yards per carry this year. His best performance came against South Carolina where he rushed 24 times for 246 yards and one touchdown. Earlier this year, sports analysts were saying Mark Ingram was the front runner. Much was expected from CJ Spiller coming out of high school because he was the number one player in Florida and the number eight player in the country. Spiller has rushed for 894 yards and seven touchdowns. Also, he caught 29 passes for 421 yards and three touchdowns. As a returner, he has four touchdowns, one on a punt return and three on kick returns. Spiller has also passed for one touchdown. Spiller is considered the best all-purpose player in the league. On December 14, 2009 one player will be named the 2009 Heisman Trophy winner. Their name will go down in history and be mentioned with some of the great players including Tony Dorsett, Archie Griffin, Doug Flutie, and Billy Sims. These players all still have at least one more game to make their case.

  1. This is boring.. It is innundated with facts and figures and little story.. I think the only person who would be interested in this is a major football fanatic. If this is your essay, put in more story, more of a reason for me to read it. Otherwise, you are just filling out a stat sheet, not building an essay. When you are writing an essay, consider your audience and try to make it interesting for THEM to read, not interesting for you to write.
