- You want a jetboat. Seadoo makes them but they aren't very large. I think less than 20 feet at the largest. Here's one: http://www.yachtbroker.com/media/images350/1507086_1.jpeg
- a jet boat.... or one with an inboard motor.. still has a propellar... but it's not sticking out the back like an outboard motor.
- A jet boat,it does not have a propeller but rather an impeller. It is nothing more than a water pump. Sea-Doo is not the only mfg. of jet boats. There is several publications covering jet boats. One of the first jet boat pumps to be used was the company that is most famous for spas,Jaccuzzi. One of the best high performance pumps is Berkley, they are not cheap but with a Jet-a-vator they can make a boat fly.
- They don't make many, but almost any bottom unit can be replaced with a jet drive
- Yes !! You have several makes to pick from , they are called JET BOATS . The most popular would be SEA DOO,s line up of sport boats. Have fun..
- Sure they do as stated above they are called jetboats and there are thousands of them. There are two different basic designs, outboard which uses a standard outboard motor but the prop unit is replaced by a pump unit. MOst of these are manufactured by OJC. Then there is the inboard unit, the engine is hooked to a large pump, which sucks in water through a fitting in the hull and shoots it out under high velocity and pressure through a flexible nozzle at the rear. Berkely and Jacuzzi are the biggest manufacturers and sell to many many boat builders. Jet boats are not as efficient as prop boats, expect to lose about 1/3 of your performance per horsepower for an outboard unit, not quite as much for an inboard unit. Advantages are as you asked about, safety and they can operate in very shallow water, it's said you can run across your lawn if the sprinkler is turned on. (not quite but I used mine on very shallow rivers)
- I sold SeaDoo PWC (Jet Skis) and their jet boats. Yamaha has the best jet boat I think. Better design and color schemes.
- There are now outboard jet drives and even jet/out drive replacement units HOWEVER you can expect a 30% decrease in power when compared to a prop driven boat For example a 150 hp motor has a final output of 105 hp as a jet drive Boat manufacurers index http://www.rbbi.com/links/boatmanufacturers.htm Check out Hinckley Yachts http://www.hinckleyyachts.com/ or try a TRUE inboard engine It has a propeller but it is well under the boat
