you can't hear others in a power boat but people in other boats nearby can hear you clearly. How come?

1. depends how close you are to the engine and how loud you're being.
2. You are close to the source of the engine noise and it drowns out all nearby sounds. But because the noise of the engine is generally directional, someone farther from the source may hear you if the engine sound is directed away from them. When you are out on a lake, listen to another boat's engine as it changes direction, relative to you.
3. The fact that you're very close to the power boat's engine, which is very loud, drowns out any sounds that you may try to hear, such as other people in nearby boats. But the people on these other boats are not close to the power boat's engine. They can hear you and the engine.
