What is the best marine paint for a 18ft speed boat remodel?
I am wanting to repaint my 18ft Steury speed boat,, and Im not wanting to use Gel Coat because it is too complicated,,, what would be the next best paint to use. Also,, can I use a coat of paint that allows me to sand it down? I forget what its called but its a chalky texture designed to be sanded down to give you a better finish like on automotive? Thank you

- The paint is called "Emron"
- I have seen allot of different types of paint used when repainting a boat and some are better then others. The type that I think gives you the best finish is Emron.Hope your boat turns out nice.Good luck.
- The Awlgrip brand is an undisputed world leader in the Yacht Professional Topsides segment. And there is Interlux - Perfection has been formulated specifically to enable amateur users to achieve professional quality results with ease on topsides, superstructure & decks. Good Luck !
- You will soon find that Awlgrip, Emron, and Interlux ( all uurethane's) require extensive preportion and controlled enviorment in order to get the "professional results'" the answers mentioned. In fact this is mostly applied by experienced professionals. I think you would be better served using an epoxy. While there are drawbacks, it's adhesion and thicker film, will yield you an acceptable job. The sanding primers are available regardlesss of type paint (coating) just tell the supplier which type paint you want to use. Also make sure you tell them if your applying by spray, as all Emron products are, or by Brush/roller. Also use decals (tape) for trim. don't try to paint. I hope this helps. In fact " I'd wet sand and buff first", You'd be surprised at the results, use 400/600 grit wet sandpaper.
