What human powered boats can endure long distance open ocean travel?
I was thinking of a bike ride via the inside passage to Alaska (in a boat) and was wondering which HPB could make the journey safely.

- The boat isn't the endurance problem, it's the human that wears out first.

- Start working out like a madman/woman. Get used to the pain.
- If you can't do it in an OAR POWERED BOAT then you will have to BUILD IT YOURSELF because you aren't going to buy one ready to pedal.
- The inside passage is not like crossing the Pacific. You will have shelter from the ocean swells between the islands and there will be places to pull the boat up on shore to sleep or if the weather is bad. Pedal kayaks are sold in the first source link below. These include options to add outriggers for more stability. There are some home built designs in the second link.
- A woman by the name of Maud Fontenoy ROWED across the atlantic. Starting point was in New York. She was 25 years old and her boat was 25ft, She had two compartments,,one on each end of her boat, one end was her sleeping quarters and the other end she kept meager supplies and food. She used maps and GPS to help her stay on coarse. She would row for 10 hrs or so and rest for a few hours, then row for another 10 hours. When she had to take cover from storms she shut the hatches on her cabin and rode the storm out. She got tossed around alot. She survived the trip and made her destination and was the first woman to row across the atlantic alone. A very remarkable story,
