Pratical use of automobile engines in boats ? what are the differences for rust, corrosion protection? I'm always dreaming up wild ideas, and I had one for a new breed of high performance personal watercraft - the Tube boat. I want to put a V-8 engine into a very stretched Seadoo-type watercraft, and just use a simple propeller shaft off the back of the engine, with maybe a simple clutch mechanism to engage/disengage the power to the shaft. Anyway, that all said, I know boats use automobile-type engines, but use special water-cooled exhaust manifolds, etc. What other Boaterizing is done to an automobile engine to make it into a "marine" engine? Any special gimmicks to prevent the corrosion of dissimilar metals inside the motor? If I chose to use a straight car engine, with the watercooled boat manifolds, how long would a motor last without any other mods? Obviously a boat style cooling system as well would be installed <duh>. So other than radiator, coolant, and exhaust manifolds, what else would normally be changed?

Where can I find a performance prop for a trolling motor? I need performance propellers for a pair 28# trolling motors. My son has built an "e-boat" and we need a good pitch to get it moving faster. The std. Weedless style are too large in diameter and too shallow in pitch not meant for over 10 MPH.

Have you ever ridden in a cigarette boat? I'm talking about the really long and sleek performance boats that have 2-3 big V8 engines, like a Fountain or Donzi. Lincoln Continental Mk VI Performance Suspension? I am currently building up my '81 Lincoln Continental, and am looking for a web site that offers performance suspension kits for the boat. How much damage can be done to a boat propeller before it needs to be replaced? I recently bought my first boat, and 18 foot speedboat. In doing some newbie exercises, such as backing into some rocks at the boat launch, I have got two or three deep gouges in the prop, approximately 1/2 inch deep and 1/2 inch wide. I have not noticed any degradation of performance (shuttering, or lower top speed). Should I replace the prop now or wait until I notice it in the performance? Thanks for your inputs!

My boat Seems to be losing Power in performance.. Please Help!? I have a 2002 Sky supreme 220sp direct drive. Last week i went to the lake and my steering cable was basically gone. The boat was running great at 46 mph. Went to brothers boat and bought a new steering cable with rack. I Changed it out and went to the lake the following week. steering cable is great, Now my boat will not top over 35 mph. pulling a wakeboarder will not top over 12mph. seems like i have been losing alot a gas as well. full tank went down to half after 15 miles of driving. the motor shakes more than normal. I been to the same lake for years so its not the altitude. Anyone out there ran into this problem before? please help!! Thank you!

What did you think of the movie "Open Water"? I saw it yesterday; the entire movie I was wondering why they did things the way they did. * Why didn't they swim across the current (rather than against it) so they wouldn't drift out to sea and would be more likely to be found by random boats coming and going? * They were only down for 1/2 an hour or so, and should have had more than 1/2 of the air in their cylinders left, depending on tank size and their breathing habits. They were certified, so were taught that they could have swam the 40 feet to the bottom, and swam across the current easily. Also, they could have done so early on to avoid attracting attention of sharks. * They could have used the shiny part of their belts to signal to boats. * They could have shined the belt (or even the masks) towards their two fingers in the shape of a V, with the boat between them. Then they would know they were signaling in the right direction. * Etc. Is the point that proper prior planning prevents poor performance?

1995 Toyota Camry with very loud engine noise? Hello! I have a 95 Camry with 196,000 miles on it. I was driving locally yesterday with my window down when suddenly I realized that my engine was extremely loud. It sounds like a race car, or a boat engine, and I'm not sure what it could be. I checked the oil and it was low, but when I filled it (2 quarts of oil) it was still loud. There have been no performance changes, the car still accelerates the same. Anyone have any ideas? What is the difference between I/O and inboard boats? Right now I have an Inboard/Outboard boat. I understand the basic difference (I/O or stern drive has a lower unit, inboard has propeller connected directly to shaft.) What is the difference in terms of performance? We are water-skiiers but also just recreational boaters. Which one works better in shallow waters? At slow speeds? Better accleration? More efficient? I'm trying to decide between I/O and inboard for a new boat-bowrider, or deck boat probably. My wife and I are 36 and have 2 kids in Jr high and 1 in elementary. We live a fairly active lifestyle and enjoy outdoor activities. Why am I getting a loud humming noise (like a horn) at lower rmps from my air intake on a 97 Ford F150 4.6L? Hello, I bought and installed the K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit (FIPK) for a 97 4.6L Ford F-150. I installed the kit solely on the directions provided. At times, there is a noise that sounds a lot like a horn on a ship or large boat pulling into a harbor somewhere (as cheesy as that my sound). Anyway, I notice it mainly when there are lower rmps. Also when I start the truck, let it run for a couple minutes, then shift into drive, right after that the noise starts. Also when the noise is goin on, the rpms are raised, almost like the air is gettin cut off and when the sound stops, the rpms drop and nearly kills the engine but it goes to normal. The noise is rather loud too, can be heard over the stereo. And the noise seems to be coming from the filter area, or it maybe could be directed out that way. Any feedback for this matter would be greatly appreciated.

mercruiser 3.0L performance?? i have a 1996 SeaRay 175 bow rider with the 3.0L motor. i recently bought a new prop to replace on that came on boat when i bought it(used). new prop is 14 1/4 inch x 17 pitch. recommended RPM's for my motor are 4400-4800 rpm. factory pitch for this setup is a 19 inch pulling 4400-4800 rpm. i am only getting 4100 rpm WOT (with a 17 pitch prop) 36 MPH trimmed for max speed. still can't get RPMs where they should be? my motor seems to run fine.

Is Stratford Upon Avon still fun in the winter? My fiance and I are thinking about going for bank holiday Monday (March 24th) but are a bit concerned it won't be much fun. Do you know of any theme cruises? I once went on a cruise called "The Rock Boat." The cruise lasted about 6 days and went from Texas to Mexico. The cruise featured different rock bands and there was always a concert going on at all times in one of the performance rooms. The cruise was okay- really I did not like any of the bands playing. dodge ram 5.9l gasser? I have a dodge ram 1996 gasser 2500 with a 5.9l. I know this is a very heavy truck and when i tow, just not happy with the performance. My boat only weighs in around 1500 lbs. Even when i am just driving up-hills for a long time with no boat, it seems to not have much power. It does great on flat land. It also has a burning rubber, or break like smell more from the back , but not sure , but only when i am working the truch hard uphills only. I am nor rideing the be\reaks ither, it smells uphill also. One tome i had to stop to get out because it was so bad. seems like it is comming more from the rear. maybe dif fluid ?I plan on changing out all fluids this summer to full senthetic oils. I was told that this truck woud pull very nice. it is only a 3 speed with over drive so what grar should i use when going up steep hills ? i sometimes use 2nd but try for 3rd when not towing. od off when towing up hills and in 2nd gear. I am thinking of getting a new propeller for my boat...? But I don't know much about them! Currently I have a three blade aluminum prop on a 22 ft SeaRay (inboard/outboard, Bravo One mercruiser). Are there significant performance benefits to changing to a stainless steel prop? How about different blade numbers? We use the boat for water skiing, tubing, etc, as well as driving to and from our cottage; it is already such a pig on gas, I'm not worried about using a little more. My father let me use his alumnacraft last year. He gave it to my uncle for his house up north, leaving me without a boat. All my neighbors and practically everyone in our yacht club have whalers. Ironically, our neighbors were selling theirs so my dad bought it for me! I love engines n high performance. Alot of people on our lake have smaller whalers, mostly 13 footers with 25-50 hp motors on them. not mine! I got 70! The kid's like to race eachother and stuff. People always made fun of my crappy tin boat. But im more respected with my whaler. I recently installed a whale tail stabilizer fin. Now its really fast. tops out at 48mph. Can someone help in choosing a small, affordable boat? Hey everyone. I'm looking for a small boat, prefferably AROUND 20' (give a little take a little, doesn't matter.). A good beginner boat would be great. The usuage of this boat would be STRICTLY fresh water for skiing, tubing, cruising, ect. ect. I do not fish either. I have no prefferance as far as inboard or outboard. I don't need anything too high performance just a good reliable boat but don't get me wrong, I love horse power. As far as price goes, I would love to stay around 20,000, less being great and more being managable. I've looked at the Glastron GXL 205, but that's a bit much, the Sea-Doo 150 Speedster which I am a bit interested in, and a dealer recently got me interested in the 2008 Tahoe Q4 SS because of a great price and it's a good beginner boat. I am the 2nd owner i really never figured out the proper way to fill up the live well.Most of the times i would turn on the freshwater switch on manual to fill the live well slowly and other times it just fills up on its own.The fresh water switch works on recirculate only not manual and when i am ready to drain the live well i shut off the main fuel switch and it usally drains.My other promblem is that my speedometer doesn't work at all.What can i do to try to solve these promblems without taking it to a dealer? Their conclusion: The problem was that the Japanese team had 8 people rowing and 1 person steering, whereas the American team had 1 person rowing and 8 people steering. The American Corporate Steering Committee immediately hired a consulting firm to do a study on the management structure. After some time and billions of dollars, the consulting firm concluded that "too many people were steering and not enough rowing." To prevent losing to the Japanese again next year, the management structure was changed to "4 Steering Managers, 3 Area Steering Managers, and 1 Staff Steering Manager" and a new performance system for the person rowing the boat to give more incentive to work harder and become a six sigma performer. "We must give him empowerment and enrichment." That ought to do it. The next year the Japanese team won by two miles. The American Corporation laid off the rower for poor performance, sold all of the paddles, cancelled all capital investments for new equipment, halted development of a new canoe, awarded high performance awards to the consulting firm, and distributed the money saved as bonuses to the senior executives.
